VA Animal Zoo

After a weekend of cold weather camping with our MD family, we headed to a local Virginia Zoo. It was started as family hobby and grew into a zoo... you have to be careful of the hobbies you pick. Brett always refers to the zoo as the animal zoo. I'm not sure where this started or what other types of zoo he thinks are around. Perhaps he feels like our house is zoo so we live in the people zoo and he animals at the animal zoo.

They are most famous for the giraffes. You can feed the giraffes. It was a very neat experience. Brett and Breandan both tried feeding them. Seane really enjoyed it too. April thought their tongues were a little slimy feeling and really really long.

The zoo had the normal range of animals... lots of birds, monkeys, a tiger, bears, rhinos, penguins, and lots of other African animals. It was a good experience and they animals looked to be well take care of. All in all these animals were more active then I've seen a much bigger zoos.

We left our digital camera in MD so we picked up cameras for the boys at Walmart. This was their first experience with being photographers. As you can tell they need some more practice. As Brett is only in the background of one of the photos. He was too busy taking all the pictures to get in front of the camera.

Camping in the Cold

Last weekend we took advantage of Mommom and Poppop's long weekend and went camping. Just the day before we left Raleigh the weather was in the 80's. Then a cold front hit just as we were leaving town. We had a cold rainy start to our camping weekend.

Mommom, Poppop, Uncle Phil, Megan, Aunt Elizabeth, Uncle Mark, cousin Matthew joined in the cold camping fun. We were able to celebrate Phil and Matthew's birthdays. We had cake and candles under the screenhouse in the rain.

Although the highs were only in the 50's and lows in the low 40's we had great time together. They rain was gone Sat. morning. We had a steady warm campfire. We took turns cooking and doing dishes. It was great to be with everyone. We excited to see Matthew walking and talking. We hadn't seen him since April when we exposed him to the chicken pox.

We left our camera at home but Megan took some amazing pictures and shared them. Thanks Megan! Mommom also shared... It is great to have these pictures.

We look forward to going again with everyone. Hopefully, it will be warmer and not wet.
